I picked up a ready-to-run Traxxas Slash 1/10th, 2WD short course RC race truck today. I'm new to the hobby and looking for advice.
What do you guise recommend for more power? I gather a brushless motor and control is a great place to start.
I'll be taking it to the desert and was looking to fit some paddles and ruddered smoothies up front, any other suspension or drivetrain upgrade ideas?
I'm currently running a 3000nimh 8.4 seven cell but am open to upgrading as needed.

Brushless is going to give you a ton more power, but you may need to upgrade some other bits in order to handle it. I had a Traxxas Rustler that I ended up giving to my brother and he ended put a brushless motor in it. That thing would flip over if you floored it from a dead stop, and would pull long wheelies with moderate throttle input. We broke several control arms and I even torqued a wheel off completely (twice!). haha I know the Rustler is a cheaper model and I'm not sure of the materials used for the rest of the bits on the Slash, but it's definitely something to keep in mind.
Also, congrats and I'm jealous! I've been wanting to buy a short course truck for awhile, but real car stuff keeps taking precedence over remote control car stuff. haha

Always keep the antennae in the plastic sleeve. Mine sadly got shredded in half by one of the tires.

I have a Slash 2wd with a brushless motor and control. It's just soooo much power. If you go into the desert, paddle tires (I have a set of rear paddles on beadlock wheels) are a must on anything softer than gravel. With the brushless motor, the thing literally just burns out with hardly and throttle input, and will do it at any speed.
